The most frequently encountered images have been selected from the abundant material available and the script was created on the basis of those images. Statistics support the claim that this film presents one of the dreams that chimney sweepers encounter most frequently.

Dawn

This film explores the recurring cycle of gentrification that takes place all over the world over and over again. When industry leaves, cities start falling apart, and the cheap open space begins to attract artists from all over. This aura of creativity recovers the municipal economy but captures the eyes of developers. Over and over again we see this process coming to an end with artists being forced out, and buildings being renovated into residential. The artists relocate to the next happing and the cycle begins all over again.

Tie Xi Qu: West of the Tracks - Remnants

The second part, "Remnants" follows the families of many of the workers in an old state-run housing block, "Rainbow Row." In particular, Wang focuses on the teenage children who concern themselves with their own lives but must also cope with their inevitable displacement as Tie Xi's factories continue to close down. In Chinese, this section is called 艳粉街 (Yànfěn Jiē), meaning "Yanfen Street."

Hujan Panas

Amir is a waiter who dreams of becoming a well known composer. He admires Aminah the singer at the place he works. He requests of her to sing his songs but she refuses. Hasnah the cashier at the restaurant pity's Amir being ridiculed by Aminah when he confesses his love for her. On the other hand Hasnah as well has feelings for him. One day an opera owner heard of Amir's songs and offered him to work at his place. Amir requested that he would go if only Aminah was to follow along. Zakaria manage to make a deal and they both worked togetthon many songs and Amir became popular since then. Aminah on the other hand began to like him. They ended up getting married and had a son, Nana. Amir loved his son so much that he gave all his attention to his son not knowing of his wife's affair with a man named Hassan who happens to be Amir's close friend. Hassan in the end managed to talk Aminah out in leaving Amir and bringing her child along.

The False Asta Nielsen

A doppelganger comedy made at the height of Asta Nielsen's fame in which she plays dual roles. This film is considered lost.
